Street Law

While at the University of Houston Law Center, Prof. Ellen Marrus founded a Street Law Program in which law students taught legal concepts in high schools in Harris County. With the onset of the pandemic, the Street Law program saw an opportunity in the adoption of Zoom and adapted the Street Law curriculum to be provided remotely to youth held in the Harris County Juvenile Detention Center.

Under G2G a new program has been started at the detention center. With the help of volunteers, youth are provided information about detention hearings, how to work with their lawyer, and how to positively advocate for themselves producing positive outcomes. Currently we offer a series of five lessons to youth who are first brought into the Harris County Juvenile Detention Center.
